As you may remember, back in March 2014, over 168,000 gallons of thick residual fuel oil spilled into the bay after a container ship collided with a fuel tanker.  The effects of the oil spill were catastrophic for  for the people living and working near Galveston Bay, and the wildlife that inhabits those areas.

During the first weeks of the spill, responders and emergency crew were holding their breath, at a loss to say how bad the situation actually was.  As in any spill of this magnitude, much depended on how the oil and water currents mixed.
